Originally held in 1998 to bring back the atmosphere of race meetings that were held there from 1948 to 1966, The Revival has become an annual three day all-vintage marathon that takes place at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in Chichester, England and attracts visitors from all over the world.

When it comes to historic motorsport, the racing calendar is never complete without the spectacle that is the Goodwood Revival. Finally, after a couple of years of disruption, 2022 saw the highlight event of the classic car year back in full swing with capacity crowds and a jaw-dropping ensemble of cars that covered almost every era. Spectators were treated to numerous delightful surprises, and this years event did not disappoint!

Known for taking visitors back in time, last weekend was as good as ever as 100,000 spectators dressed in period correct outfits from the 1940s – 1960s descended on the ex-RAF airbase in West Sussex to have an experience of all things vintage.

If you have never been, the best way to explain the experience would be to imagine that you are an extra in a film with thousands of other visitors.

From historic aircraft displays both on the ground and in the air, to a complete retro film set recreated for visitors to feel like they were dropped into the set of ‘Grease’ and the new ‘Thrive and Revive’ village that showcased the best vintage inspired arts and crafts – there was truly something for everyone, whether they were a car lover or not. A visit to the Revival is truly a magical step back in time.

This years track highlights included 15 races and celebrations spread over the weekend. Crowd favourites were the hugely entertaining Lavant Cup, featuring no less than 30 MGB’s on the grid locked in bumper to bumper battles.

Across the famous circuit, Union Jack flags were at half mast in honour of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as the nation came to terms with the recent news.

Friday night’s usual sunset race, the Stirling Moss Trophy was replaced this year by the Freddie March Memorial Trophy to celebrate 70 years since the very first Goodwood Nine Hours, a triple-A enduro of early 1950s sportscar racing.

As huge crowds lined the famous Goodwood bankings this year, there was definitely a special feeling among those who were there.

Despite the excitement of all the racing, there also seemed to be a shared sense of sincerity because of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Marked by respectful tributes and moments of silence over the three days, the 2022 Revival was a weekend that celebrated and represented Britain at its very best.

On behalf of Goodwood Revival and everyone at attendance, as well as The Garage Queen, we thank you ma’am for a lifetime of service and leadership. God Save the Queen!
